Welcome to this instalment of The Armoury Reload. Lets review the summer and look at whats coming up.
Thanks for all your support thus far.
Please follow our socials, like and share as much as you can. We would love for you all to spread the word to your friends and family and help us keep growing!
It’s official! The Armoury has been open for over a year.
We opened September 1st 2024. To celebrate this achievement on Sunday 19th October there will be:
Juniors Grading 09:45. Stripes and potentially belts will be awarded. So parents, make sure the kids are aware as they will be closely watched, tested and assessed up until this date!
Adults Seminar & Grading 10:30 – 12:00. My coach, Martin Hollis will be taking a seminar, focusing on a mysterious subject that is yet to be determined. Either way, some dark wizardry will be present. We will then potentially give out a few stripes etc, depending how nice you all are to me!
Social. We will then head over the road to have some nibbles etc and celebrate the achievement of some of you being awarded new bit of finger tape.
Student COACH of the month!
During the summer period, training can be a bit more speradic. So student attendance isn’t a fair factor. If it was, yet again, Amara beat everyone hands down!
With this in mind I have decided to direct this month’s focus is on Gate!
He sacrificed a lot of time and voluntarily covered me in my absence. He did such a good job that I havent heard the end of it. He has become a real value to club and displays some top quality Jiu Jitsu and coaching. Next time you see him, give him a good pat on the back.
Awesome job!

Club Gi’s, Rashguards and Shorts
We have been establishing a provider of custom kit for members. I will be sharing the designs and opening up the opportunity to pre-order for both Adults and kids soon.
I will try to keep the pricing as fair as possible, but please remember these are custom and will represent and support the club.
Competition News
BJJ All Stars London
This was a crazy busy event with practitioners of all levels and experience. A great comp for getting plenty of fights in. We only had Rob representing The Armoury on this occasion, in both Gi and No Gi Blue belt devisions. He had some very close matches where Rob showed his fight IQ, securing himself with the Gold in both devisions. 👏
This experience has given us some great stuff to work on and proved to be a great opportunity to work on our coach/student dynamic and strategy.
Luton Open 2025
This is a brand new comp and was small but well run with all the usual experienced refs. Sian was the only competitor representing The Armoury this time out. Winning the gold by racking up points in a dominant fashion. Even utilising the techniques of the week! Well Done Sian.
Surrey Open
This Guildford based comp is typically a well run and attracts a good standard of competition, from a wide range of gyms. The turn out wasn’t quite as we had hoped, but there was a good quality of opposition.
We had 4 enter and all of them fought their way onto the podium in impressive fashion. There was some great Jiu Jitsu displayed and we also observed some great opportunities to make improvements. Massive congrats to all competitors.
Charlie – Gold
Ben – Gold
Carlos – Silver
Lester – Silver, Bronze (Absolute)
The Gauntlet Interclub.
This was a small interclub event that was held at a fellow Checkmat affiliate gym in West London. This was the first time they had attempted to run anything like this. So as you would expect, there were some growing pains.
We had 3 guys representing the club. 2 of which, competing for the first time. The mixed age category definitely played a large factor at this comp. They represented themselves and the club well. Carlos even managed to win a silver medal. Considering, being really old going up against against a load of whiper snapers, quite impressive.
I would like to highlight the that we have consistently headed to comp with a team of supporters, which really shows the community spirit that our club has developed. Big thanks to those who both competitors and supporters that represent the club.
I will be working on our next string of competitions. If you are interested in competing then make sure you come and speak to me before signing up.
Community running/walking club
Meeting outside The Armoury on Tuesdays at 6pm, some of the fitness crew, who work with Adam have organised a weekly run/walk. Word on the street is that there’s a whatsapp group for those who take part.
Get in touch if want to get involved. Close friends and family welcome.
Just to clarify, this activity is NOT being organised and/or supervised by Adam and The Armoury. Just a nice community led activity suitable for all levels and abilities.
Until our next Reload… Keep training!
