The Class Format

A typical class starts with a warmup, which comprises of several exercises or “drills” that will support movements and techniques found in grappling. We choose warms ups that relate to the techniques and positions being demonstrated in that session.

We will then move onto the demonstration portion. We will explore concepts and techniques based around the position. Week by week will alternate between the attacking and defensive techniques before moving onto new positions.

Play time! At the later stage of the class, we may have an opportunity to try out these techniques in real-time. Known as sparring or “rolling”.

What to wear – No Gi, No problem!

The Gi is the “uniform” worn in BJJ. However, if this is your first time or trial session training BJJ you are most likely Gi ‘less. Wearing general sports shorts or leggings on the bottom is fine. Avoid wearing anything with large baggy pockets and zips. Anything that can catch and scratch. On the top, a T-shirt is fine. Avoid wearing your finest as it might get stretched out.
