Andy Short – Head Coach @ The Armoury

Andy is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) black belt under Martin Hollis and part of Checkmat BJJ.

Starting his journey back in 2012 after a realisation that he was far from a picture of health. Once he started, he found a hunger for competition and learning more and more gaining a skill and passion for coaching.

Having had the opportunity of traveling as a musician and working in events, Andy always took the opportunity to train wherever he went, gaining a wealth of knowledge and experience. Training and attending seminars with legends of the sport (BJJ & MMA) such as Ryan Hall, Kenny Florian, Ricardo and Leo Vieira among many more.

You will regularly see (and hear) Andy at competitions either coaching from the sidelines or competing himself. Usually earning some silverware and securing a place on the podium.

Martin Hollis – Head Coach @ Memento Mori Jiu Jitsu Reigate.

Martin is a Second degree Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) black belt under Keith McKenzie and part of Checkmat BJJ.

Martin trained in judo and traditional Japanese Jiu Jitsu as a child and teenager. When he moved to London in 1999, he discovered Muay Thai. After watching UFC 38, live in 2002, Martin then decided to look for a gym where he could train in mixed martial arts (MMA).

That’s what led him to London Pancrase in Finsbury Park, which was one of the UK’s first MMA clubs. Here, Martin found out how easily he could be picked apart on the ground, so he focussed on grappling.

When Martin later moved back to Reigate, Surrey, he discovered his passion for training BJJ in the gi. He trained in a number of local clubs and gyms, but didn’t find a home until a friend introduced him to McKenzie BJJ, Crawley. Martin quickly gravitated towards Keith’s relaxed, technical teaching style and developed his skills using this fresh approach. In 2017, Martin became Keith’s first black belt (an honour he doesn’t hold lightly).

George Winfield – Personal Trainer & Sports Massage Therapist.

George has been coaching for 6 years, supporting clients with fat loss and fitness goals, improving mental health and all the way through to pre and post natal training and late stage return from rehab. Recently, after becoming an EXOS performance specialist, he has been working within sports, from weekend warriors all the way through to professionals. Most notably, he has worked with Surrey Netball academy and also completed an internship with London Scottish RFC.

George is available for 1-1 coaching and online coaching, writing bespoke programmes from his beliefs that the knowledge needed to help support you with your goals can come from anywhere, and there is plenty of crossover when it comes to implementing skills and methods into your training to improve your goals/needs.

Vick Breslin – Pilates instructor.

Vick has been coaching Pilates for 7 years supporting people through injuries and rehabilitation as well as for general health and fitness. Her passion is to help people understand their body’s well enough that they are able to move freely and leave pain in the past. She gets just as much joy from helping somebody with a stiff neck look over their shoulder when they are driving again as she does when one of her competitive athletes wins a medal.

She has 20 plus years experience of working in movement and rehabilitation but also understands the reality of life’s expectations. That doesn’t mean she won’t push you when she thinks you can do more, but she aims to keep her classes fun and relatable to real life, whilst ensuring you leave feeling better than when you came in.
