Training BJJ can be a frustrating journey, where everybody goes through ups, downs and typically suffer some long plateaus.

A massive learning curve for me (I am not alone with this) was leaving your "A Game" for the right time and the right sessions.

Practice what you learn! What's the point of learning and drilling new skills, but never trying to implement them in your sparring? We use positional/specific training to focus on the subject learnt in that session for this reason. It's easy to always stray back to your "A Game". If we are all honest, we all do it. It's like  breaking a bad a habit.

Next time you catch yourself in autopilot following your favourite sequences or technique, make a conscious effort to come out of your comfort zone. If you don't focus away from your "A game". Not only will you prevent yourself from learning new skills effectively, your, so called "A Game" will stay exactly the same and not develop.

Our goal and the reason we never stop training, is that we want to keep learning and have an all round game. Not just have a singular dimension "A Game".

Time to add layers to your "A Game" and develop it. Don't get me wrong. I'm not suggesting to never use your A Game. Save this for competition rounds or sometimes if you just want to, or feel like it. Now and then you will recognise the changes and development of your game. The is an awesome feeling!

I joined the Armoury about a year ago now and it was the first time doing martial arts as an adult. When I joined I had nothing but encouragement and support from the gym, such a great environment to learn BJJ and escape life’s general stress. Been to other gyms and no other has the same vibe. Andy has created a great environment and a proper family here!!

The Armoury is a fantastic place to learn BJJ. I have been coming to classes for just under a year and Andy is an amazing instructor. He has built an incredible environment that is so welcoming to everyone. There are so many great, friendly and supportive people here with a real team culture. Andy’s classes are always so detailed, safe and structured and he pays great attention to detail to everyone. The best place to train!

I’d never done any sort of martial arts before joining, to be honest I’d always felt it’d be awkward to join and setup but my good friend started a week before and said Coach Andy was different level. 6 months on and I’m absolutely loving it. From my first session, was welcomed into the community by the team - who are always happy to help you learn and Andy has an awesome way of teaching. Ego gets left at the door and everyone respects the sport and each other. If you’re considering getting involved, don’t hesitate!

Andy is a fantastic coach and is very welcoming to those new to BJJ. As an older starter I was apprehensive about training, but right from Day 1 I was put at ease by Andy and how friendly everybody was. There is a great mix of levels and ages training here.

Andy always makes you feel welcome, and builds great bonds with the children. my daughter has learnt so much over the last year, from discipline within class to key skills of jujitsu. She always looks forward to the classes and learning new things.

I’ve trained BJJ for a few years now under many coaches and Andy is a class above. When I joined I was surprised at the skill level of even the newest people in the gym - which all comes down to Andy and the community at the Armory for the coaching and training. Definitely the best gym in the local area - whether you’re just starting or want to progress your game - here is the perfect place.
